The New Inn

Grade II listed Georgian coaching house of about 1720 at the village crossroads, with exposed beams, open fireplaces, a log fire in winter and a sunny courtyard beer garden in summer. Cask Marque ales rotate across three handpulls, and the homemade menu is served in the bar and garden. The restaurant seats 35; there are six en-suite letting rooms upstairs and a self-catering cottage. Dogs are welcome in the bar, beer garden and cottage.

Baldersons Bakery, Cafe & Tea Garden

Bakery, sandwich bar, cafe and gift shop in one building on Chestnut Avenue. You take a table and order at the counter, and the food is brought out to you. There is an indoor room and a large tea garden at the back, part of it covered and heated, so it stays usable outside the summer. Breakfast and lunch, a substantial vegetarian choice, and a gluten-free menu. No fixed opening hours are published, so check before travelling.

Stanley's Pet Store

Brandysnap Bistro

A small evening bistro on Whitbygate serving home-cooked food on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm. Bookings are taken in person or by telephone only. The bistro states on its own website that brandysnapbistro.co.uk is its only online presence, that other sites claiming to be its social media or booking service are not connected to it, and that it will never ask for bank or card details to secure a booking.

Classic car and automobilia auctioneers of Bangers & Cash fame. The gift shop and motor museum are at Roxby Garage in Thornton-le-Dale; the auctions are at their Pickering site and not open to the public; visitors can attend the view days before a sale (£5 per person to charity, correct at the time of writing), with a free shuttle bus between the two on view days only.
