What to expect
The Thornton-le-Dale Show is the village's largest annual event, a proper country show that draws visitors from across Ryedale and beyond. In 2026 it marks its 105th year.
The day typically includes:
- Livestock classes, cattle, sheep and other farm stock.
- Horticulture and handicraft tents.
- Sheepdog and terrier/lurcher shows.
- Children's sports and races.
- A craft and produce marquee.
- Trade stands, demonstrations and local food stalls.
It is very much a family day out, with a village-show atmosphere rather than a commercial fair. Bring cash for some stalls and the produce tent, and arrive early if you want to see the livestock judging.
Visiting the show
Parking is free at the show field, which is separate from the village's main pay-and-display car park on Maltongate. Follow the show signs and stewards on the day.
If you are staying in the village, be aware that the show fills the roads and car parks from mid-morning. Walking from a nearby cottage or arriving early is the easiest approach. For general village parking advice, see the parking guide.
Times, admission prices and the full programme change year to year. For the latest details, check the official show site: thorntonledaleshow.org.
