Bangers and Cash is filmed at Mathewsons, the family classic car auctioneers of Thornton-le-Dale and Pickering in North Yorkshire. The two sites are about two miles apart on the A170, on the southern edge of the North York Moors.

Why two sites

Mathewsons' sale days were once held in the village hall in Thornton-le-Dale. As the number of cars grew, and with bidding moving online during Covid, the auctions and head office settled at the Pickering site around 2020 and 2021. Thornton-le-Dale remains the family's home ground.

Away from Mathewsons

The collections in each episode are filmed wherever the cars are, all over Britain and sometimes abroad, from farm buildings in Yorkshire to Kirkby Stephen East station, where a Triumph TR8 was collected in series 11. The family have also taken the auction out of the saleroom for Bangers & Cash Live at Scampston Hall near Malton, in August 2023 and August 2024.

Can you visit?

Yes. The gift shop and museum in Thornton-le-Dale are open to visitors, and the cars for each sale can be seen at Pickering during the viewing week. You cannot watch filming or attend the auctions themselves.

Getting there

Thornton-le-Dale is on the A170 between Pickering and Scarborough, about two miles east of Pickering. Parking is in the National Park car park off Maltongate and around the village; the Coastliner 840 and the EY128 and X28 buses stop in the village.
